Richard Salcido, Principal of Ann M. Garcia-Enriquez Middle School in San Elizario ISD, has been selected to represent the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals as the Region # 19 Outstanding Principal of the Year.


 Richard Salcido, Principal of Ann M. Garcia-Enriquez Middle School in San Elizario ISD, has been selected to represent the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals as the Region # 19 Outstanding Principal of the Year. TASSP recognizes outstanding principals and assistant principals from the state's twenty regional Education Service Centers. School administrators are nominated and chosen by their peers within their regions. Nominations are based on exemplary performance and outstanding leadership. As a Region # 19 winner, Richard Salcido is eligible to compete for the state title of Texas Principal of the Year.

Richard Salcido, a 4-year principal, has headed the leadership team at Ann M. Garcia-Enriquez Middle School since the 2020 – 2021 school year. He attended The University of Texas at El Paso and earned a Bachelor’s degree. He attended The University of Phoenix and was awarded a Master’s in Computer Information Systems. Richard Salcido sees himself as a risk taker, a visionary, and a leader of learners. He is credited with numerous achievements, including his campus being named a Texas School to Watch by The Texas Association of Secondary School Principals and the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform. Mr. Salcido states, “For our students to succeed, it is important to nurture the whole child to foster a positive emotional state so they can believe in themselves and have a Si Se Puede mindset.”

Each regional winner will be recognized during Josten’s Night of the Stars Awards Dinner, held during the TASSP Summer Conference in June 2025. They will also be awarded and recognized in a commemorative book entitled Texas Principals, Texas Heroes.
